What is Cheffy?
Cheffy is your personal cooking assistant that is always with you! Cheffy helps you create new dishes by using a curated list of recipes based on the ingredients you have on-hand. Powered by AI, Cheffy will not only learn what your favorite cuisine is, it will also cater towards your allergies and pre-existing health conditions! By integrating the latest technology, Cheffy is able to recognize what ingredients you have in your pantry through Computer Vision.
Through the use of an extensively trained AI model, Cheffy is able to recognize and identify hundreds of different spices and ingredients in order to provide you with the highest-quality recipes.
OverviewMy time at Cheffy began two months after they had won 1st place in the Idea Center (Dec. 2023) program at MDC. In the following three months I helped design the app where we were able to present at Emerge America (2024) thanks to the $10k credit we received from winning the event. We were able to present and acquired a couple of partnership nomination that helped us continue with this project forward.

Proposed Design Question :
How do we design an app that is able to take pictures of a person's pantry, or refrigerator and it instantly displays recipes, while still maintaining a social media aspect that resembles top leading apps, but also reflects like a personal blog?
The Problem
While the world wastes about 2.5 billion tons of food every year, the United States discards more food than any other country in the world: nearly 60 million tons — 120 billion pounds — every year. We want to create an app that helps reduce that, but also is able to create recipes designated specifically for individual users.
Process
Due to joining in the company pretty last minute, it was a fast paced enviroment where we tried to make a product as quickly as possible for Emerge America (2024). After the event things significantly calmed down where we were able to look at our strengths and weaknesses and work on them step- by step.

Research
- People tend to be more indecisive than they realized.
- A lot of food gets wasted more due to meeting expiration date, than not wanting to eat left overs.
- People are more likely to buy a product they might not have, than to go and check to see if they already own it.
- Cheffy has a ton more uses than we previously thought that could benefit SaaS, B2B, B2C, and personal users, meaning that we've had to change our approach to designing this app a couple of times.

Brainstorming and Information Architecture
Brainstormed lists and mapped those lists to identify common themes.
Created a basic information architecture to understand how the platform might be structured.

Low Fidelity Prototype and Wireframe
Created basic wireframes to lay out the overall flow of the platform
From the low fidelity frame I designed our wireframes

Emerge America
We were accepted into the Emerge America 2024 cohort. Once this began we started to focus on gaining a customer base and building to impress investors. I used the high fidelity prototypes for the stand up pitch, and we were even congratulated on the concept and execution of the product.
Even though we got high evolutions for this event, we were too early stage for most sponsors like Sedanos, Fresco y Mas, and others. However some sponsors have already shown great interest and are waiting patiently for a more developed version.

Come back April 2025 for major updates :)
